Combs

KROKO produced the first combs of the modern era, in the late eighteenth Century. Among KROKO's most famous clients are Queen Victoria and the Spanish Court. The last Century saw then the transition from animal to plant materials, primarily cellulose acetate, a material of natural origin obtained from the processing of wood waste and cotton flakes. This transition in the name of more modern technology represented an important functional achievement, because it allowed us to overcome the problem of the "hygroscopy" of animal materials, i.e. that characteristic given by the latency of the signs of failure of the material, which caused an imperceptible, unexpected and sudden decay of the artefacts. The transition to a processed material with a plastic component inside made it possible to create products with an enormously higher degree of resistance and elasticity. Owning a comb handmade by KROKO is still a source of pride today, a sign of distinction and refinement.
